Welcome to the (delayed) first 2009 collection from David Hennessey's Train World.

Saturday 3rd January 2009 saw a new year's outing to York, mainly to see Network Rail 86901 and 86902 stabled at York station inbetween 'ice breaking' duties on the East Coast Main Line, plus the usual flux of NXEC and Grand Central traffic, and a Cross Country HST on hire as well.

Then it was onto the museum for a first look at Britain's newest standard gauge steam locomotive; 60163 Tornado, a replica of the BR (Eastern Region) A1 Pacific class. The loco, built in 2008, shone like a diamond in her newly applied 1948 Apple Green livery, with the famous Gill Sans BRITISH RAILWAYS lettering on the tenderside. Wishing the A1 Trust the best of luck for the loco's bright future.

Also included was the NRM's recent arrival, GWR King class 4-6-0 number 6000 King George V, and GNR Stirling Single number 1 on display in the South Yard's Diesel Tent.

Videos are also availabe on YouTube. Thanks to Aaron Roberts and David Holden for the company and laughs.

The worksplate on 60163 Tornado says it all. The loco was assembled in Darlington, with some of the other components coming from other parts of the country, except for the boiler which was built in and imported from Germany.
